New Research Center Builds on Capital Absorption Work

Center for Community Investment LogoLast week the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy announced the creation of a new research center focused on capital absorption

Since 2012, David Wood (IRI) and Katie Grace Deane (IRI) have collaborated with Robin Hacke, Marian Urquilla, and others, to develop and explore the concept of capital absorption, or the ability of places to attract and deploy capital in support of low and moderate income communities.  The formation of the Center for Community Investment is significant validation of this work. The new center will be “a leadership development, research and capacity building initiative to help communities mobilize capital to achieve their economic, social and environmental priorities.”  Headed by Robin Hacke, the Center for Community Investment will be based at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy in Cambridge, Massachusetts and in Washington, D.C.

With the support of our funders, including the MacArthur Foundation, the F. B. Heron Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, we look forward to continued collaboration with the Center, building on our past research, to help develop healthier and more sustainable communities.
